Sodium Metabisulphite Powder is an inorganic compound which finds application as preservative & antioxidant in food products with E number E223. It appears as white colored powder and shows solubility in water & glycerol with melting point of about 170 degrees Celsius. This compound has molar mass of about 190.107 g/mol with density of 1.48 g/cm3 and slightly SO2 like odor. It is most commonly used for sanitizing equipments used in winemaking industries. For having ability to prevent oxidation of vasoconstrictor adrenaline, Sodium Metabisulphite Powder is used as local anesthetic agent. It also possesses good bactericidal properties and finds application in wastewater treatment plants as well.
